Permitted use
You may, without prior written permission:
- View, download, and print images for personal, non-commercial research and educational use.
- Share links to pages on this site on social media and in personal communications, including the standard preview thumbnails that platforms generate from those links.
- Quote short captions or descriptions in academic work, news reporting, or commentary, provided you credit the Dana Point Historical Society and link back to the source page.
Permission required
You must request written permission before doing any of the following:
- Reproducing an image in any printed publication, book, magazine, newsletter, brochure, or signage.
- Using an image on another website, app, social media account, or digital publication beyond a link.
- Using an image in any commercial product, advertisement, broadcast, film, or merchandise.
- Creating derivative works, mash-ups, or AI training datasets that include our images.
Third-party images
Some images on this site were contributed by families, photographers, and partner collections (for example, the Boehne family, the Olvera Collection, and others). Where a third-party creator is named in an image caption or credit line, that creator retains their own copyright and any licensing request must ultimately be cleared with them. DPHS will help facilitate that contact.
How to request a license
Email contact@danapointhistorical.org with the following information and we will respond as quickly as our volunteer staff allows:
- The specific page URL and image you would like to use.
- How and where you intend to use it (publication, website, exhibit, product, etc.).
- Whether the use is commercial or non-commercial.
- Print run / circulation / expected audience size, if known.
- Your name, organization, and contact information.
Most non-commercial educational and research uses are granted at no cost. Commercial uses may require a licensing fee that supports the Society's preservation work.
Reporting unauthorized use
If you believe an image on this site infringes a copyright you hold, or if you have seen one of our images used elsewhere without permission, please contact us at contact@danapointhistorical.org.
