Our Heritage

A documentary exploring the history of Dana Point and surrounding areas from 1900 is available through our film archive. The Society preserves the historic buildings and stories that give this community its unique character.

Incorporated in 1989

Dana Point was incorporated in 1989 in the county of Orange. The city is named for Richard Henry Dana Jr., whose 1840 memoir Two Years Before the Mast chronicled this coastline.

A maritime heritage

The city seal features the Pilgrim tall ship and the Dana Point coastline, honoring the nautical history that defined this place long before it became a city.

A living legacy

The DPHS advocates for the historic buildings that contribute to the eclectic visual character of the community — reminders of Dana Point's rich and colorful past.
