The event was begun in 2002 to honor residents of Dana Point who have made significant contributions to the community during their lifetimes – contributions that improve the quality of life for those who live here and are key to its enduring history. These contributions include but are not limited to the following areas: business, cultural life, city government, schools, various boards and commissions, philanthropic organizations, arts and non-profits for the betterment of Dana Point.
The Founders Day Award is given annually by the Dana Point Historical Society during a ceremony at the May program meeting.
