Last month we enjoyed Richard Dodd, our historical architect, in another of his interesting presentations. He brought his new book, Architectural Styles — Orange County, which he signed for those who bought a copy. He also tested those in attendance with historical questions and the ones with right answers received a 44 cent US stamp of himself as a boy. David Kristjanson became a bit of a “hog” himself since he knew most of the answers. See what you miss if you do not attend?
I hope everyone read the cover story in the mid-February issue of the Dana Point Times about the release of our Dana Point Driving Tour Brochure. Look for the brochure at businesses throughout town or for sale at DPHS events for $1. I want to thank Terry Walsh, Mary Crowl, and Nancy Jenkins for their year of effort in getting this pubished.
Remember, if you are a Ralph’s shopper, sign up to have your Club Card associated with the DPHS. Our organiza- tion number is 90334. You can go to www.ralphs.com to make the link or ask at the store.
At our January meeting, we re-elected half of our board of directors. We would not exist if we did not have these volunteers to carry out duties and responsibilities that support our goals. There are several who work on various projects: Beverli Jinn: newsletter layout, Bill Shepherd: rotating displays, Keith Johannes: curb stamps and Woodruff street lamp locations, Buck Henderson: scholarship BBQ, Liz Bamattre & Ann Leibowitz: reading of Two Years be- fore the Mast, and a host of volunteers for our booth at the Festival of Whales for four days. Thanks to all of you for your support for growing the Society.
So, if you want to volunteer, make sure we have your email address for use when we put out the call. Also invite friends and neighbors to join or maybe give a membership as a gift. We will be giving a copy of Two Years before the Mast, the History of Cityhood and the first 20 years of Dana Point, or a Woodruff logo tall ship lapel pin with each new membership.
Look for info on our March program herein and we hope to see many of you during the Festival of the Whales.
