Our City

The city was incorporated in 1989 in the county of Orange. At the center of the seal is an illustration of the iconic figure of Richard Henry Dana Jr., the city’s namesake, standing on a rocky outcrop with one foot raised, looking out over the sea. This image pays homage to Dana’s role as a seaman and his historical connection to the area, famously chronicled in his book “Two Years Before the Mast.”

The Pilgrim tall ship appears in the background, symbolizing the maritime history and the significance of the harbor to Dana Point. The coastline and cliffs of Dana Point are depicted in the backdrop, highlighting the natural landscape that characterizes the city. The scene is encircled by a thick, rope-like border, emphasizing the nautical theme.
