“. . . from the Hills of Hollywood to the Sea . . . in Dana Point”

Woodruff PosterThe Home Tour Committee approved the above theme at our May 20th meeting.  Our thirteenth annual Home Tour in 2013 (that has to be lucky) denotes the 90th Anniversary of Sidney H. Woodruff’s Hollywoodland development, after which he turned his investors’ attention to his Community of Enchantment-By-the-Sea in Dana Point.   We are featuring Lantern Village Woodruff homes and a Town Center commercial building, circa 1928 to 1932.  Three homes are within walking distance of each other.  Committee members include Regina Barnes, Lisa Bartlett, Elizabeth Bamattre, Bonnie & Bob Beeby, Joel Bishop, Mary Crowl, Norm Denton, Nancy Jenkins, Christy Johnson, Marsha LaRusso, Kirsten Reynolds and Mary Williams.  Regina Barnes is the Sponsor Chair who asks each of us to enlist a home tour sponsor — think of your favorite restaurant, investment adviser or a company from which you have recently purchased a new appliance or car.

“23 Skidoo!”  Our exciting news for the October 6th Annual Home Tour is that StillWater Spirits & Sounds will provide our tour headquarters!  This historic 1920s building and its Prohibition-era historic photo decor will be on the tour as well as providing the morning registration, an afternoon reception and “All that Jazz.”  The DPHS museum’s Woodruff-era exhibit featuring photos, real estate ads and publicity of the period will offer a second home tour registration site at City Hall Plaza during the first half of the tour.

Volunteers are still needed.  We have openings for a Registration Chair and co-chairs on the day of the tour.  A Logistics Chair is needed to organize the placing of signs at each tour location, along with a table and chairs at registration. A Raffle Chair is needed for in-kind gift donations from sponsors.  Of course, we also need our wonderful docents in each home.

Monday, June 17 at 7:00 p.m. is our next Home Tour Meeting in the DPHS Museum, Suite 104 at City Hall.  Please join us if you are interested in participating at any level.  We will have dessert and beverages.
