Enthusiastic February Program Audience Crowds City Hall Chambers

DunnDPHS provided another well received program when over 70 people attended our February event to hear our guests Joe Dunn, author of the book Pocket of Paradise: The Story of Beach Road and his guest, local sailing legend Wayne Schafer. The event took place at Dana Point City Hall in the Council Chambers.  Joe Dunn told the story of Capistrano Beach’s Beach Road from the days of Junipero Serra to the early development by the Doheny family and to the creation of the Hobie Cat sailboat right there on the beach. He introduced the locals through stories and pictures along with Wayne Schafer who had many of his own adventures to speak of. Together they brought to life the small Southern California beach community that has had a big impact on the country’s surf-and-beach lifestyle culture. Afterward, autographed copies of the book were available and attendees enjoyed a reception at our museum.
