1929, Doheny

This stately two-story Spanish Colonial Revival house is built in a large, irregular rectangle that is twice the size of the original house built on the site. Featured as the signature home on the October 29, 2000 DPHS Inaugural Home Tour of Historic Doheny homes by then owners Alice Baum and Don Burnes, the home was also opened to the public as the Tour Headquarters of the Fourth Annual Home Tour featuring Four Generations of Capistrano Beach homes. The original rooms of the house are to the left of the central hall. These rooms include the living room, a small dining room and kitchen on the first floor and three small bedrooms and a bathroom on the second. Stenciled ceiling beams, stucco lattice work, a wrought iron banister and the lovely Pomona tile of an original bathroom have survived several renovations and expansions as did a romantic patio and out-door fireplace. The front facade features an arched entry door located in an integral front tower with a hip roof rising above the other roofs, an under roof balcony and wood casement and fixed Palladian windows. The Palladian windows replace rectangular windows and are not original. Interestingly, the home served as a bed and breakfast at an earlier time and the bedrooms still have their names above the doors.
