Mills Act: Yes

The current owners purchased the property in 2009 and have saved this Spanish Colonial Revival casita from a 2006 demolition permit obtained by the former owner.  Originally, located on Calle Paloma, the house was moved to Vista Del Mar in 1957 when the 5 Freeway went through its former location. The City of Dana Point has granted the owners request to designate the home as a locally significant historical structure and have approved their application for the Mills Act Program. The listing on the Historic Resource Register allows the owners to rehabilitate and restore the home without paying permit fees, if the work is consistent with the historic criteria under which the property was designated as a historic resource. The Mills Act program will eventually enable the owners to receive reduced property taxes in exchange for restoring and preserving their historic property. The house was listed on the City’s Historic Resource survey in 1997 as designed by Roy C. Kelley, the Doheny development architect, circa 1927-29.
