Our Next Monthly Meeting

June 23, 2008

Doheny State Beach Barbeque & Scholarship Dinner!

Historic Subject: Lucy Chavarrias Saunderson

If you can call barbequed tri-tip steak and chicken with barbecued beans, slaw, drinks, and dessert—and conversation with all the fun people in town—a picnic, you have the right idea! This event will occur Monday, June 23, in the Area A Picnic Pavilion of Doheny State Beach. Free entrance and parking will be provided, courtesy of our fine state park personnel.

The after-dinner program will be a salute to this year’s two scholarship winners and a light-hearted recount of the unique life of our scholarship namesake, Lucy Chavarrias Saunderson, by her two sons, Roberto Chavez and Jack Saunderson, who ate at Lucy’s El Patio since they were knee high to a cat—the Black Cat Hotel, that is, in Capistrano Beach. That’s part of the story.

Be there or be square!
